Italy’s labor minister plans to call for tougher rules governing the “gig economy” when his country hosts a Group of 20 meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday in Sicily, Reuters reported. The meeting will include government leaders charged with overseeing labor from members of the G20, which include the US and Canada among others from the world’s biggest economies. “We will focus on some major issues such as gender equality in the labor market, the impact of new technologies on employment and economic systems, the extension of social protection instruments to address the inequalities that already existed and which have worsened with the pandemic,” Italy Labor Secretary Andrea Orlando said in a separate statement.
