Business is booming when it comes to opening new businesses in Hardin County.

According to a study from Self Financial written Feb. 7, business applications in the Elizabethtown-Fort Knox area increased from 1,129 in 2019 to 1,261 in 2020. The number grew from 33,150 to 37,550 statewide in the same year.

In Elizabethtown, there were 576 new business applications in 2019. That number wavered slightly to 567 in 2020 but climbed to 679 in 2021.

Elizabethtown-Hardin County Industrial Foundation President and COO Rick Games says the pandemic easing coupled with major industrial investments in the region will help small businesses.

“There’s no doubt that announcements like Nucor and BlueOvalSK are going to make a difference,” he said.
