Business owners along East 138th Street say they don’t feel safe after the neighborhood bakery was robbed and the owner’s husband was assaulted. 

Christopher Martinez, 18, was arrested on Friday after police say he walked into Valencia Bakery and hit the owner’s husband in the head with a cane and a heat gun after he recognized him from a previous incident. 

The owner, who didn’t want her face or name shared, says that while she feels uneasy, she won’t be scared out of business. 

She says she’s uneasy after Martinez was released from custody. 

“This particular individual him and his friends have been a menace to the neighboring businesses…There needs to be more patrol we need to feel safe, we’re working,” she tells News 12. 

She said since they had seen the suspect’s pattern of behavior over the last few months, her husband decided to trap Martinez in the bakery…
