Boris Johnson marked England’s so-called Freedom Day by announcing emergency plans to exempt crucial workers from self-isolation rules that are causing economic and social disruption.

The prime minister’s decision to lift most Covid-19 restrictions was accompanied by an announcement that additional policies — such as requiring double vaccination to enter nightclubs — would be introduced in September.
