GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The Grand Rapids Chamber’s PAC is not endorsing a candidate in the closely watched congressional race between Republican John Gibbs and Democrat Hillary Scholten.

The political action committee, Friends of West Michigan Business, has historically backed Republicans in the 3rd Congressional District race, but it opted against throwing its support behind either candidate this time around. In addition, two other groups that previously backed a GOP candidate in the district, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and the Detroit Regional Chamber, are also sitting the race out.

Joshua Lunger, vice president of government affairs at the Grand Rapids Chamber, declined to discuss the decision to not endorse Gibbs or Scholten.

“We’re declining to comment further,” he said.
