Producers of metals and other raw materials ticked down after the dollar added to recent gains.
The dollar hit its highest level in more than a year against a basket of other currencies, weighing on gold and copper futures. Freeport McMoRan, which mines both commodities, fell by about 3%.
Gold futures fell 0.7% to $1853 an ounce, their biggest loss in almost two weeks.
