WALKER, Mich. — Emergency crews responded to a business fire in Walker Saturday evening.

The Walker Police Department says the fire broke at Jack Dykstra Excavating on 3 Mile Road.

Chief Dave Pelton with the Walker Fire Department says the first call came in before 6 p.m. with brown smoke reportedly coming from the building. He says crews arrived several minutes later when they learned the fire had started in the attic.

Crews acted quickly to extinguish the fire before it spread to the office area, Chief Pelton adds.

We’re told the shop is considered a total loss but the office is still fit for use.

No one was inside the business when the fire occurred, the fire department tells us. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

We’re told the roadway between Calann Court and Fruit Ridge Avenue, which had closed while crews worked to put out the fire, has been reopened except for 3 Mile Road’s westbound lane.
