Syracuse, N.Y. — A Syracuse man went on a vandalism spree, smashing 45 car windows and damaging businesses as well as a police car and a door in the jail on Sunday, police said.

Syracuse police said it all started shortly after noon Sunday when William Kaulback, 32, stole some items from Joe’s Quick Mart at 758 W. Erie Blvd.

Kaulback ran from police, but they arrested him for the theft and a warrant from Manlius, police said.

While arresting Kaulback kicked a police car, damaging it, police said. He was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center where he damaged an interior door, police said.

After being arraigned Kaulback was released, police said.

He went to the 300 block of Hartson Street where he smashed in the windshield of his sister’s car with a car jack and fled, police said.

After 10:30 p.m. Kaulback continued his ‘smashing’ spree by breaking windows and damaging six businesses, police said.
