Midland recently got a little sweeter when an incoming Central Michigan University freshman began her own confectionery business.
Fatimah Khan, of Midland, began the endeavor when she was a sophomore in high school and was given a marketing assignment to create a business with the profits going toward the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Khan and her partner decided to sell chocolate-covered pretzels, which ended up making $1,200 in just two months.
Khan saw the potential of the business and the following summer, she decided to seriously pursue the business, dubbed Chocoletzle (a portmanteau of “chocolate” and “pretzel”). She expanded the menu, incorporating truffles followed by cakes, cupcakes, cakesicles, croissants, scones and cookies. She also offers vegan options on her website and can make gluten free treats upon request.
